Blooming with excitement!

The latest outing by Heritage of Emerson residents was to the Orange City, Ia. Tulip Festival. Orange City, Ia. Is about 75 miles north of Emerson and is host to an annual Tulip Festival. The Dutch community is in full bloom with cultural events during the three day time span. Residents experienced traditional Dutch foods such as Almond Pastries as well as good old American hamburger, French fries and a malt. They also viewed a demonstration on how wooden shoes are carved. While in the wood carvers shop an old carnival wooden pipe organ wagon was played. The ornate wagon had moving characters that danced as the music played. Strolling throughout the city area many tulips were in full bloom with colors ranging from white, orange, pink, burgundy, black and every shade in between. Bulbs were available to be purchased and shipped at the proper time to plant in the fall. Of course, Kellie Wageman’s love of flowers didn’t let that opportunity slip by. The day was topped off by watching the traditional Tulip Festival Parade. Beginning with the washing of the streets, community members, completely dressed in traditional attire, strolled the streets with a clop, clop, clop of their wooden shoes. Beautiful floats sailed down the streets and area marching bands performed. The group truly enjoyed the day.
